March 2nd – 11th at Flight Deck, Oakland
Ray, a wealthy, white businessman, rides the bus through a black neighborhood and past the state penitentiary every Saturday. On his weekly ride Ray befriends Shatique, a young African American woman putting herself through college and struggling to raise a son on her own. For a while the friendship offers more than either of them expected, but when Ray finally reveals why he’s riding the bus the threads that bind them gradually unravel in a complex web of race, privilege, and revenge.

Oakland will host it’s first ever site- specific play festival, the “Flash Mob Short Play Festival!” It will be a festival about the spirit and incredible diversity of Oakland and the culmination of a three month search for a new generation of Oakland playwrights. Lake Merritt is the beating heart and soul of Oakland and through the three plays of the “Flash Mob Festival” you’ll see a sea monster, a disgruntled muse, a giant clam, and a charming, but feisty gondolier erupt “flash mob style” before your eyes!
